#TheCool: Technical Difficulties 2: Tech Harder

#TheCool back up in it on this special Tuesday edition and it's been a long week hence our title. Couple this with a slow week everywhere and you get what I'm about to present. But present it I shall as I always do.

Because of the Technical Difficulties is that PT came up short once again but I'm hoping I'm working at full capacity by the weekend so don't be surprised if your everything blows up and I'm responsible for it. Before all of this I was at least able to get in something for #DoaGHThaDOJO!

This week...

Under Night In-Birth: EXE:Late, Shin Koihime Musou & Chaos Code NeSiCa! I've been saying for weeks the slowness but this drought is man made. I'll be making up for this in a big way so be sure to stay tuned.

And with PT down, time for This Week In Gaming!

Ultra Street Fighter 4 is going hard now. Hard enough to make me pay attention. It would seem that they're adding some new mechanics to the mix. Those being the Double Ultra & Red Parry. The Double Ultra is going to allow you to do something that should've been a thing back in Super which is the option to have the ability to use both Ultras at the same time at the cost of doing less damage overall. There are going to be characters who benefit huge from this option and others who will just be able to continue with the same setup and be fine. And the Red Focus is just the ability to absorb multiple hits during a Focus Attack. From the video it doesn't look too viable as an actual option on either side of the ball now but I guess that's what the location tests are for. Should be interesting to see how that information will shape the final game and the game moving forward via updates. Let me see if all these things will make me pick the game back up.

Our 1st look at Soul Calibur 2 HD in action with 2 matches on the docket. Nightmare vs Mitsurugi & Raphael vs Xianghua. The game is looking quite spiffy and to be able to play this in HD will be a treat. Is still waiting for 3 Arcade Edition HD. Still. Waiting.

And to close us out is Akatsuki's story more from UNIB! Only here because the streets love it.

Because of these technical difficulties however I've been able to get some heavy gaming and I can reconfirm that Corpse Party is complete crack. I started playing it Saturday and have got completely sucked into it. Something will come from my experiences playing it so be watching for that. I played a bit of Chrono Phantasma trying to get my groove back with Miss Makoto while I wait for KOKONOE-HAKASE-SAN to be released as DLC. I still need to play Continuum Shift's Story Mode because that wasn't a thing I did when I actually should've. There's possible plans for that as well. We'll see if they pan out.

Also because of these technical difficulties I'm not caught up on everything but I did get in some Gaim which is still going in and coupled with Kyoryuger taking a turn for the super awesome. The Originals is getting better every single week and I'm OK in eating my words on how it isn't just a waste of a time slot. Arrow is still Arrow. Felicty Waifu Squad ALL DAY!! Naruto & Bleach still DeM'ing it because it is what it is. I'll always read it. The upside of missing everything is the catch up marathon that'll take place when the times comes. I'll be sure to let you know about it in the next installment.

And now it's time to start to wrap it up with What I Watched On YouTube When It Was Available To Watch!

Even with all of this craziness I can make sure to delve into the crazy that is Sonic For Hire. Still on the quest on who's fucking with them.

There's no better than Good Ol JR to commentate the great that video games provide.

Game. Grumps. Redux. The Return of Pinkie Tron!

BLACKBEARD! VERSUS! AL CAPONE! BEGIN!!

If #DoaGHThaDOJO can't provide the crack we'll default to another supplier. Enjoy some NGBC!

You're question for this installment is the following, Does Wayne Brady have to choke a Wii U? We can only hope so!

And that does it for us. Before we go a couple of things.

Shouts to my SMG family mainly EvilFreakzilla's little brother Lemon making it big doing his thing rapping. Gotta respect those who wish to chase their dreams! Feel free to listen and hit him up on Twitter @LemonSMG and tell him I sent you!

With BBCP out we have to give the cover girl honors to KOKONOE-HAKASE-SAN of course! Even though the DLC isn't out yet. Technicalities, technicalities!

And that's that. Like I said I hope to be back to normal output by the weekend so don't be surprised when it comes.

As usual thanks for kicking it with your folks because we appreciate the company. Hopefully see us back next week for a fully featured installment of #TheCool!

Until next we meet!

#TheCool: The Phenomenal Wan: Avatar J. Styles

#TheCool back up in it with that usual time frame mixed up in something as always. We've got plenty to cover so let us not waste anytime on that.

PT's up and damn even I can impress myself. My newest installment of #GamingBucketList featuring Kid Icarus and it covers about everything you'd ever need to know to about it. I had a wonderful time not only playing but sharing what I learned with everybody else. So if you haven't read it then after you get last week back be sure to read it. You can do so HERE!

And as usual #DoaGHThaDOJO has that everything you didn't think you needed. This week...

Shin Koihime Musou, Project Justice & Under Night In-Birth: EXE:Late. Slow motion this week but I have a feeling you'll have more you can handle in the upcoming week. So enjoy for now.

And with that, This Week In Gaming.

Kingdom Hearts III. Not 3 apparently. There's gameplay which would seem that Sora and the Kliq went to Disney World and stole some of the rides and can now summon them. I'm very interested now! Very much so.

This is the extended trailer for Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax featuring Shizuo from Durarara!!! and Kuroyukihime from Accel World. Still waiting on s-CRY-ed. Will wait patiently.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate has a new costume pack just in time for All Hallows Eve. Some nice costumes in this pack and the return of Lorelei from DoA3 with a spooky makeover. Cool beans.

Sengoku Basara 4. Profound Sadness. Import. Hype. Sad. Always.

Flip Bucket has a new character for its latest update as Xeno is here now and Shanwoo has been retooled for whatever reason.

GOTY candidate. I was a huge fan of Criminal Girls on both sides of the ball. The Sexy & the RPG that accompanied it. Now add some touchscreen functionality and you've got something going. #BasedNipponIchiSoftware

In other news, Rukia's in J-Stars. YEAH!!!! She's a support character...FUCK OUTTA HERE!!! Still the game with Based Yusuke in it so there's still hope. For some reason I want to get into X & Y but I'm short an Ambassador 3DS so it'll have to wait. I think it may be me seeing the games come full circle or something but I might just wait for the inevitable Z to come out.

Other than Kid Icarus I didn't get on much else. I tried to fit some Xenosaga 3 in but it didn't happen like I wanted it to. I'm also still scoping out alternate games for the next #RunDatReXXX if the original plan doesn't pan out. But we'll see though and I do have a plan for my next #GamingBucketList so be watching for that as well.

In all that other stuff I watch as you can see by this week's title is that that hour long Korra was so beast with the origin story of Wan. I'd seriously watch a series about it but the episode covered everything you needed to know but what this does for the show as a whole is to be seen.

Revolution is going straight nuts. OG Young Tom Neville aint Based God no mo. The new Based God is so Based he's just Based and while that's going straight nuts so are The Originals & The Vampire Diaries and I now see the light. Klaus is better off spun off so TVD can do what it does and it's doing that very damn good! Forver Salty. RIP The Secret Circle! That Gaim show. Going super duper nuts!

I do have some plans for some upcoming marathons including Garo Makai Senki & Attack on Titan planned when I have the time to do so. AoT has been a long time coming and the Garo one comes from me taking care of everything before Makai Senki in a nice marathon this week. So go that. I'm just ready for the Winter Anime Season so Sailor Moon can finally come. We be waitin homie!

And Naruto & Bleach running DeM'z in the dirt like nobody's business. This is what happens when you write yourself into a corner. Learn not to do this at home, kids!

With that as we usually do at this time, What I Watched On YouTube This Week!

Sonic For Hire is trying to answer the question. Who's fucking with them? And Dolphins. Or were they Porpoises?

Nigga. Turtles. Nigga Turtles!

Reminders of the good old days and that crush on Valerie Rae Miller. #TeamDetweiler

Shouts to Mikadok for this awesome tutorial of Phantom Breaker: Extra. A must watch if you're a bit curious about the game at all.

Vinesauce Corruptions are back with another classic being tampered with. Metal Gear Solid!

Real Life Moments with Mrs. Mash Starring Consequences.

FAT ASSES!! FAT ASSES!! FAT ASSES!!

That's it. We're done. And as usual thanks for kicking it with me for a little while.

Shouts to the OG Avatar, Wan! Thanks for the super awesome origin story!!

Now we're done. See You Next Time!!

#GamingBucketList: Kid Icarus (NES/FDS)

Here again we find ourselves at the end of another one of my random journeys to find efficiency in the games of old and share it with all of you. Kid Icarus has always been a game for me personally that I dabbled in to say I did but never gave the time to delve into. Until now. Even after saving Angel Land for the 1st time (Cue Dog Pound & Applause Here) is that this game lives up to its reputation on the surface to be a difficult game to get into much less stepping on the path of mastering all it has to offer. The thing is that in 2013 we have a lot of equalizers that we didn't back in 1986 and this was key for me making it to the end. To be honest the game pushed me to a point where I understood that it wasn't going to let up or play fair so if I wanted to see the end then I needed to even the playing field as I always do. With knowledge. I needed to dig deep into what the vast World Wide Web had to offer and when I got here I started to see this game in a whole new light. This game under the hood for a game that came out in 1986 is mind blowing. I'm mainly getting at the limitations of NES and passwords and what they actually keep track of compared to the FDS' ability to save progress to the disk. This is in comparison to Metroid and what it kept up with a year prior and while I'd love to keep talking technical feats with you is that this isn't what we're here for. We're here to even Kid Icarus' playing field with 27 years of experience shared by millions of people condensed into something you can use to better your enjoyment with a great game that I've enjoyed the hell out of AKA what I always do when I do a GBL. And as usual I need a starting point. But where to start seeing as they are many.

How about Pit himself. Makes sense anyhow seeing as in order for everything else I'll cover to make sense we have to start with the basics. B shoots arrows and A jumps. The basics. TA-DA! He can also duck by holding Down and he can slide in this position by holding Down-Forward or Down-Back to slide in the respective direction. Pit can dodge some projectiles this way and this also carries the effect of falling through certain objects which in most cases will kill Pit. You'll fall through a couple accidentally because I'll admit I did even after getting used to the mechanic. So, at this point you know that you can defend yourself by shooting and get from place to place by either jumping or ducking. So...what's next?

The next logical step in progression is getting into offense and how Pit does such a thing. When the game starts you're weak. Very much so in fact. The game does offer a myriad of opportunities for Pit to grow stronger and add additional fire power to his arsenal. The game does this in 3 ways.

You gain additional HP by defeating enemies and when you cross certain point thresholds AKA Leveling Up (20,000/50,000/100,000/200.000 for L2/3/4/5 respectively) and if winning the fight for Angel Land is your desire then you'll need to grind a bit to make this happen. Luckily the game provides a couple of points in the game where you can do this relatively safely. Where these spots happen to be is for you to discover. Know that they exist and they're key for survival.

As you play the game you'll find Sacred Training Chambers & Sacred God Chambers that'll either challenge Pit to complete some training for an additional weapon or a chamber that'll grant Pit additional strength if he meets the requirements for it.

When it comes to the Sacred Training Chambers is that all you need to do is survive and nothing more. Don't leave during or the God will call you a weakling and since chambers don't come around to often you'll want to complete these training exercises as you come upon them. For completing a trial you're awarded with the choice of 1 of 3 weapons.

From left to right we have the Fire Arrows, Sacred Bow & Crystal Rod.

The Fire Arrows technically let you fire 2 arrows for every 1 by way of the fireball attached to the arrow which does the same damage as the actual arrow you've shot. If the fireball happens to kill the enemy then the arrow will continue to hit any additional enemies in a line if they're there.

The Sacred Bow allows to shoot much further than you could before and allows you to kill enemies from a lot farther away which is great for making your platforming escapades a lot easier later on.

The Crystal Rod as you see in the picture gives Pit a way to not only defend himself but also attack as well. As you can also see it doesn't always cover Pit all the time so it isn't a be all end all to the enemies you face.

So after conquering a Sacred Training Chamber what should you choose?

In my opinion you should go for the Crystal Rod, Sacred Bow and Fire Arrows in that order. Why?

Choosing the Crystal Rod when you complete your 1st Sacred Training Chamber is for this reason. The Crystal Rod is a huge equalizer and you'll realize this as soon as you start using it. In this case a great offense is led by having a great defensive equalizer for your enemies to deal with. And it comes right on time as the game starts to switch it up and you'll be very prepared for it.

By time you complete the 2nd Sacred Training Chamber and choose the Sacred Bow is that it'll also come right on time because of where the game starts placing enemies and being able to get the drop on them by sniping from a distance will make your platforming a lot easier to manage.

Acquiring the Fire Arrows last when you do will be right when the game ramps up so you'll be able to take out your enemies with no problem at all because of how the Fire Arrows work.

This order comes from a lot of play and the order helped me manage the game a lot better because of experimenting with each of the weapons as my 1st pickup to see what they offered before coming to this conclusion. Feel free to experiment with the order and choose what will make the game more manageable for you.

There is one small caveat to using weapons. Remember earlier we talked about how Pit levels up. This goes hand in hand with each additional weapon Pit collects because in order to be activated and used is that Pit needs to be 1 additional level per weapon picked up. In other words he needs to be L2 for the 1st weapon and so on and on top of that his HP needs to be at said level before it can be activated but once activated it'll stay active. Also the other point to note is that while the game will offer you a weapon you've already acquired is that you can't power it up by picking it up more than once. There is a reason however a weapon you've already acquired is offered to you again but I'll explain the why behind it later. But if you think that's a doozy then let us talk about Strength Upgrades because there's something there to see as well.

To acquire a Strength Upgrade from a Sacred God Chamber upon entering is that you need 10,000 Points of Skill (Separate from your actual score total) to earn the upgrade. You can only earn 1 Strength Upgrade per level even if there are multiple Sacred God Chambers in a level. How is Pit's skill judged? Just take gander at the list below and I'll break down the parts you need to pay attention to.

-300 for taking damage, except for damage tiles like lava
-10 for firing an arrow
-500 for breaking a jar in the Treasure chamber
+300 for entering a Holy chamber
+100 for defeating an enemy that drops a small heart
+300 for defeating an enemy that drops a half heart
+500 for defeating an enemy that drops a big heart
+100 for collecting a small heart (if you have less than 998)
+300 for collecting a half heart (if you have less than 994)
+500 for collecting a big heart (if you have less than 989)
+100 for collecting a mallet
+1000 for collecting or buying back a Weapon
+100 for buying anything in a shop except a Glass or Weapon
+300 for entering the Score tally screen (redundant)
+8000 for killing a boss (redundant)

What I bolded is what you need to pay the most attention to because these 6 events you as the player are in the most control over.

There's going to be a point where you'll have more hearts than you know what to do with. As you see with the bolded is that you collect skill points by picking them up but if you're maxed out then you'll score no skill points and with our goal of evening the playing field you'll want to get stronger as fast as you can as the opportunities present themselves. If you play it right, by the time you get to Stage 3 is Pit's strength should be maxed and most things in the game won't stand a chance once you cross this threshold. Here's a mathematical note for reference. You only need 9700 Skill Points to get a Strength Upgrade because you get 300 for entering a Sacred God Chamber. TMYK as always. Now you know how to be strong. Now let's learn about staying strong.

Staying strong in Kid Icarus isn't easy and for the point we're aiming at is it isn't cheap either.

As Pit goes about his duties to save Angel Land is that he'll run into stores where he can buy items to keep him in the fight. Now there are 3 "types" of stores you should be aware of.

There are the stores ran by the friendly shopkeepers of Angel Land who for a fair price of hearts will sell Pit a wide variety of items.

There's the Black Marketeer who doesn't mind selling things at a premium and knows he has a couple of items in particular that are worth the price he's selling them for. However if you play your best you'll never have to deal with this guy ever. We'll be talking more about him a bit later.

Also are the shopkeepers of the Fortresses that Pit must conquer. They're just like the friendly shopkeepers Pit meets in his travels except they offer some special items that only work in the fortresses in which you find them.

But what are you buying?!

Let's start with The Water of Life. (210 for a Chalice. 350 (Friendly/Fortress) & 480 (Black Marketeer) for a Bottle) It restores 7 HP upon pickup when using a chalice and 7 HP upon losing all available HP when a bottle is used.

You'll find Chalices of Water not only in shops but through your adventures as well. Make sure to pick them up when you see them especially when you're about to enter a door because when you come out it'll be gone. Pit can store a single Bottle of Water in his inventory unless you have an item that will let you store more than one. And that item is...

The Barrel. (500 from the Black Marketeer) This is an item that is worth what you pay for it because it lets you store 8, count them, 8 Bottles of Water. You may never use all 8 but having that type of insurance for your journey is invaluable. Now don't fret. There's another way we can get the Barrel for free if you do it right and follow my lead. We'll talk about later.

In the now however another one of the awesome items Pit can acquire is...

The Angel Feather. (390 Friendly & 480 Black Marketeer) This item is a must during your playthroughs because of what power it bestows upon Pit. If you fall off of something that the game considers death then the Angel Feather will kick in and allow Pit to fly for a bit to make it back to safe ground. Its the Beat Whistle before the Beat Whistle. I'd always suggest having at least 2 of these at all times once you can afford to just to cover you just in case.

You can also find and buy Mallets. (20 in either a Friendly or Fortress Shop) You find mallets during your adventures by collecting the Harps you see which turn your enemies into Mallets which you can collect.

Mallets only have 1 technical application, when in Fortress Stages you'll find statues of fallen soldiers called Centurions who've been turned to stone by Medusa. By freeing them as you find them you'll have them help out in the boss encounters in the Fortress Stages. In order to break them free you need to activate the mallet by pressing Select and then attacking the statue to free them. They can be pretty helpful because for every shot they land on the boss does 5 damage and every little bit helps. However they're pretty weak seeing as soon as they get hit they die. So if you need a bit of backup then be sure to free Centurions as you venture through the fortress. And for a fun note you can actually use the mallet to attack enemies. It does 5 damage but it's a real waste for not using them as they're intended to be. Just here for a note but just don't do it.

However, speaking of the fortress there are 2 exclusive items you can only buy in Fortress Stages. They're the Torch (120) which once you find the map will show you your exact location on it. And the Pencil will show you where you've been so far. Here's the thing though, this is the year 2013 and detailed maps exist that show you the full layout of each of the Fortress Stages so there's never any need for either of these 2 to ever be purchased. Ever!

I just so happen to have the hookup for each of the fortresses.

Level 1's Fortress

Level 2's Fortress

Level 3's Fortress

These 3 maps are another equalizer in this quest. I'd figure I'd link them now but we're going to talk about Fortress Stages in a bit more detail later.

Back to the hustle of shops because there's a bit more to it. When it comes to the Black Marketeer is that he's in league with some of the worst enemies this side of the NES called Plutons. Plutons are very invincible and what's worse is if you happen to run into one they'll steal one of your extra weapons and this is something you never want to happen. Now if this unfortunate event befalls you there's 2 ways to get the weapon in question back. You can either find a Sacred Training Chamber and earn the item again or buy it back from the Black Marketeer for a very exorbitant price. (Fire Arrows for 600. Sacred Bow for 500. And the Crystal Rod for 700.) But since there's no actual penalty for death in the game is that if you get robbed then just kill yourself and start the stage over again. No reason to put yourself through that when on another run through said stage will fare better. Now if you happen to need something from the Black Marketeer and you happen to be short a bit is that even in Angel Land there's a way to put a purchase on Layaway.

You do this with the aid of a Credit Card of course. The Credit Card works like this. If it is in your possession and you buy something but not enough to afford it is that until you pay what you owe is that any hearts you collect will go to paying the debt back. Now whether this is good or bad is for you to decide but first thing is however is actually finding the Credit Card in the first place. Just so happens we have a place for that...

Treasure Rooms are just that place and with what you've learned so far is that everything isn't as straight forward as you wish it was. The object of a Treasure Room is to clean it completely out without running to the GOD OF POVERTY. I didn't know I was actually in the game. Referential joke. Anyhow, there's a way to never meet him and this is key for not only possibly finding the Credit Card but a free Barrel, Bottles of Life & Angel Feathers as well. Here's the thing. In order to even take advantage of a Treasure Room you have to have hearts to do so. It costs 5 hearts for every Treasure Pot you break so in all honesty this isn't much of a Treasure Room as it is gambling hearts for a chance at something cool. But it is another way to make those hearts back, pick up extra mallets and find all that cool stuff the Black Marketeer wants your soul to purchase. So now that I've explained it, how about you learn about getting over like Rover the Casanova!

The above are the Treasure Rooms for Levels 1 & 2 respectively and this is how they look before you start smashing everything in sight.

Now as I said our goal is to clean each and every one of them out so we get cool stuff to make our journey easier. Here's how. There's a way to know what pot the God of Poverty will be in if you break certain pots first.

Now the pots I've marked with stars are the 3 you should break for any Treasure Room you find in Stage 1. Here's the trick. Depending on how many mallets you find in the 3 pots you break you can easily know where the God of Poverty is.

If you find no mallets, break the pot in the lower left corner last.
If you find one mallet, break the pot in the upper right corner last.
If you find two mallets, break the pot above the entrance last.
If you find three mallets, break the pot in the center of the room last.

The game doesn't change for Stage 2 either. Break the marked pots first then use the guide to avoid the God of Poverty and collect the goodies.

If you find no mallets, break the pot in the lower right corner last.
If you find one mallet, break the pot right below the marked pot on the left side of the room last.
If you find two mallets, break the pot in the center of the room last.
If you find three mallets, break the pot in the upper left corner last.

Once you break that last Treasure Pot is one of the items we talked about earlier will appear.

Now during my run of the game I never picked up the Credit Card and if you play well you should never need for Pit to put anything on Layaway. Getting another Bottle of Water or Angel Feather for your troubles is nothing to sneer at but you'll want to try to get the Barrel early. Your first Treasure Room is in 1-1 so if you make it to the Treasure Room and don't get the Barrel or Credit Card if you're looking to Rent-To-Own it is that you may want to reset the game and try again until you do. The Barrel is that important to Pit's quest to have it ASAP and you won't regret the choice either. And with me getting off topic a bit about shops and such there's one more important thing you should know.

In Friendly & Fortress Shops you can actually haggle store prices. It's more technically scaring the shopkeeper to lower the prices because of how it works. You do this by pressing A+B on Controller 2 while in a shop and with a Yin & Yang concept going here is that successfully haggling prices is determined by Pit's current Strength Level. It works just like this. Whatever stage you're on your strength level needs to be +1 that. So for example if you're in Level 2 then you need a Strength Level of 3 or higher to punk out the shopkeeper. The Black Marketeer doesn't play that and any attempt at such tomfoolery will get you nowhere. You might be wondering how deep is that discount. I got you there too.

The Water of Life (Chalice 100 & Bottle 270)
Mallet (10)
Feather (150)
Pencil (100)
Torch (70)

If however you try to haggle and you're Strength Level isn't what it should be is the shopkeeper will proceed to tell you "He's The Juggernaut, Bitch!!!" (Does not actually say this!) and raise the prices on you!

The Water of Life (Chalice 400 & Bottle 760)
Mallet (50)
Feather (630)
Pencil (250)
Torch (200)

Know that if you aren't successful in haggling is that while the prices change over you can get them for what they normally cost if you're quick about it. Figured I'd let you know that as well.

Now that I've explained all this maybe we can talk about actually playing the game now.

Kid Icarus' battles are fought on 3 fronts. Vertically Scrolling (Stages 1 & 3), Horizontal Scrolling (Stages 2 & 4 are a forced scroll.) & the Fortress Stages (every 4th Level).

All of the non Fortress Stages & Stage 4 are all about the platforming. We talked about earlier about all the helpful items Pit can acquire for his adventure and now's the time to use them. Just be sure to be careful in how you approach the platforming the game offers. Simply pausing the game when you aren't sure of how to get to the next one will do you a lot better than dying and having to start over again. Also know that there are no boundaries on either the left of right of the screen in Vertical Scrolling sections so be sure to keep that in mind as well. If you should need maps for these stages I just happen to have them down below.

Stage 1-1

Stage 1-2

Stage 1-3

Stage 2-1

Stage 2-2

Stage 2-3

Stage 3-1

Stage 3-2

Stage 3-3

Having these maps when you play are great for knowing when & where the chambers are so you can plan your route and strategy accordingly. Just a small note. Any empty chambers you see are actually Sacred God Chambers. Keep this in mind for strategy as well. What about those Fortress Stages? What about them indeed...

Know that Fortress Stages are a different beast entirely and there are things that need to be understood as you make your way through them. The game is always going to force you to go the longest & most treacherous route to find the boss. Always.

Just to remind you is that having a map handy and planning your route before hand is very key to for making it to your destination and taking care of the business at hand. So much so that I'm going to present those links to those fortress maps again. It's that serious!

Level 1's Fortress

Level 2's Fortress

Level 3's Fortress

When you make it to a Fortress Stage your first move is to pause the game and bring up one of these maps and make sure to become intimate with where things are. You'll want to plan your route to the boss lair first so you know exactly where you're going. Knowing where the shops are along the route just in case you need a Chalice or Bottle of Water will be helpful to you. Also knowing where Hot Springs & Hospitals are because being healthy is always awesome and that Eggplant Wizards are the fucking devil is important to know as well. The Eggplant Curse sucks and not being able to defend yourself is never a good look. The best way to deal with them is take advantage of Pit's long invincibility time to make it past them. Taking a hit to make it past them is a small price to pay for having to go completely out of your way to find a Hospital to cure that curse! You can try to stand up to them but I wouldn't suggest this unless you strength is L4 or 5 and you don't see a way to take the hit safely and even then it's suggested to just take it anyway to not have to deal with the consequences of being cursed. Also if you feel you need the help of the Centurions to defeat the boss and have the mallets available then free as many as you can. I really didn't need them during my run but I freed a couple anyway and I will admit they do speed up boss encounters so they have that going for them too.

To be honest I'd give you a lot more but all of the above should be more than enough to equalize Kid Icarus' playing field and still get the full enjoyment of a classic NES title. You know I'm never down with taking away the experience but I'm all for making said experience more efficient for me and you!

I have to say that this is the most informative and in-depth GBL I've done and I'm damn proud of it and Kid Icarus deserves that much! Before we part ways for now is I'd like to thank and credit those responsible for some of the information found here.

Gunpei Yokoi, Hip Tanaka & everybody at Nintendo R&D1. These folks are responsible for this masterpiece I've talked at much length about. From tip to tail this game is something special and I'm glad I know now and so much better for this experience!

Ultimortal & Disch Wersher for the awesome information I was able to gather from Ultimortal's FAQ about Kid Icarus. It was very helpful for not only my playthrough but for making this GBL as awesome as can be. There are some additional things there I didn't touch on so if this GBL isn't enough then feel free to look at the FAQ HERE!

Rick N. Bruns & all the great folks at NESMaps.com. His maps are the ones linked to in this GBL and were just as helpful for planning my route through the game. NESMaps.com is an awesome resource all its own. I even used it to plan the Super Mario Bros. 2 #RunDatReXXX run which we'll be finishing up soon. So be sure to take advantage of the resource like I have!

The things that can come from watching 2 dudes on YouTube rage quitting a video game is a special thing!

As usual, thanksfor spending some time with me and I truly hope your quest to save Angel Land is as awesome as mine was and the continued quests I'm sure to have! Until next we meet!

#TheCool: Hot-Blooded As Fuck!

#TheCool as usual in #FULLEFFECTMODE and as usual 168 hours down and time for me to build it back up into a masterpiece that you can remember and awe at.

Anyhow, into PT we go and nothing from me this week. The time I had set aside for doing something got eaten up by grown-up stuff but I'll be getting back to work this week if it all lines up.

#DoaGHThaDOJO however is always doing what it does. This week...

Under Night In-Birth, The Rumble Fish 2, Chaos Code, Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!! & Aquapazza are what's on deck right now so feel free to dig in.

With that out of the way let us get into This Week In Gaming!

This wasn't a thing I ever expected to wake up to but I'll take it. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX featuring KH2 Final Mix, Birth By Sleep Final Mix & the cutscenes for re:Coded. All we know is that it'll be out in 2014 and I'm hyped for it. At this same event there was a trailer for KH3 but it hasn't been released yet. If it comes I'll add it in or just feature it on the next installment.

Speaking of SquareEnix and games that are coming MURICA is that Drakengard 3 is coming in 2014 as well. Justice has been served.

Shin Gundam Musou. More of the same with some Unicorn in the story mode. That's that. When it's coming to anywhere but Japan is unknown but there isn't any reason to think it won't come out anywhere else. We shall see.

Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers is doing that thing I wanted it to by adding a new scenario called The Galaxy War which gives the game the plot leeway to have every single character in the same place at the same time. Too good!

Speaking of things that are too good is for all my Vita fam is that Malicious ReBirth is now available and you should get it. A wonderful game on PS3 that is enhanced by the Vita. Get that.

A new trailer for the upcoming Strider game and it's looking good. I'm still in wonder about will it be YOPO for the consoles or not.

More Killer Instinct featuring Sadira without Orchid this time.

As we get ever closer to the release of Aquapazza in MURICA is this is a look at all the characters who represent the Utawarerumono series. See if there's something you like and cross reference it some vids from the DOJO to get your weight up.

Gaming wise for me is that I was able to get some Xenosaga 3 in. That series is still criminally underrated. And for the record 2 is better than anyone thinks. It just takes some strategy to actually win a battle but that becomes undone in the end game by Shion, MOMO, Erde Kaiser and some Sword Ethers. I'll let you figure out the equation on that front. I <3 SHION!!! As far as what I engulfed in is that looking at this week's title does say I got in the 1st 2 episodes of Kill la Kill and that shit is awesome. I can see where people get hung up on Ryuko's battle attire and the stuff in the show that flows around that but excusing that the show is just that good and instead of waiting on a marathon I'll be adding this to the weekly rotation and glad to be doing so. Arrow was on deck this week and it delivered. The show is going in a new direction that I like and any direction that involves more Felicity is something I'm totally down with. Gaim 2 episodes deep is looking to be a huge step up from Wizard and is seeming to continue the trend of every other year equals crack. I just want this to go the distance and just be a good rider show I can enjoy every week. All the other usual suspects did what they usually do with this week being full of SWERVITY SWERVES on all sides of the ball in various ways. I'd talk about them more but it tinges on spoilers and y'all know I feel about those. So to end this party as we always do is What I Watched On YouTube This Week!

As we continue to the end of Sonic For Hire is this week they reunite with an old friend and make new ones too.

Here's a doozy for you. What happens when a Chubby Ninja Girl fights a Hell Spectre? All I know is that even that question raises even more of them. Shouts to Emezie for this shot of awesome.

Evolution is a never ending process. This video is proof of that concept.

No matter what you think, there's always a better way. Always. A. Better. Way.

Shouts to WizzyWhipItWonderful for what should probably exist but doesn't yet. A OST for Darkstalkers vs Street Fighter. Give it a listen. You'll be glad you did.

These videos don't need an explanation. Even if I could provide a sensible one to explain what you're seeing anyway.

And that's that. Another one in the books. As usual thank you for spending some time with your folks and we'll see you again next time. Until then!!

Kill la Kill. Watch it. The End. See you next week!

The Cool: Don't Say No! Just Live More!

#TheCool as usual in that famous #FULLEFFECTMODE on this Monday and we've got a lot to do. So maybe it would be a good idea to do that.

PT is in full force this week with not 1 but 2 installments of #GamingBucketList featuring Advance Guardian Heroes & Astro Boy: Omega Factor! The AGH one is just my admitting that I got it wrong and I plan to fully give it the usual GBL treatment once I figure some things out. And the one for Astro Boy: Omega Factor is full stuff you need to know to have a wonderful experience playing a classic game by the folks at Treasure. I'm in the lab with with some other classics and they'll get their own GBL article when the time comes.

And #DoaGHThaDOJO is always hard at work bringing you the crack you need to survive. This week...

Akatsuki Blitzkampf: Ausf. Achse, Battle Fantasia, Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!! & Under Night In-Birth: EXE: Late! A little slow motion this week but we do what we can with what we got! Please enjoy.

And now, This Week In Gaming!

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. Another crossover. Which has the possibilities of not only SEGA characters but the possibility of Kazuma & Ryoho from s-CRY-ed in a fighting game. I'll be keeping an eye on this and #DoaGHThaDOJO will have match videos when the game drops. Console version coming at some point.

Sonic's in the new Smash. I guess. I haven't been hype since Mega Man and I don't think I will get hype until I'm actually playing it. This also does confirm Pac-Man in a strange way. I have no idea when they'll drop the news but they'll find some common thread to do so. And he'll look like the cartoon version out right now. I wonder how they'll introduce Snake as well? If its even Snake. If its even David Hayter. He we go again. Kiefer voicing Solid Snake in Smash would start an actual war. Troll Kojima Troll!

They're still confirming characters for J-Stars Victory VS but the Based Demon God Yusuke Your A Meshi's in so do what you want. Whatever you want. As long as whatever you want includes Kenshiro & Jotaro then go right ahead.

A new Akiba's Trip trailer that explains what's going on why things have to be this way. DIS GON BE GUD!

Do you want to know everything about Onechambara Z Kagura with NoNoNo? Then watch this trailer. Game has been pushed back to November 7th and for now no confirmation of a release outside of Japan. But as I've told you a billion times you should always have foreign accounts for your current consoles (not including M$ cause they might ban yo ass) to have access to games such as these. Easily the best game in the series with all the wonderful refinements that the game offers.

Cosmic Star Heroine or Heroin depending on how you read and interpret it is another game from the folks at Zeboyd Games who are responsible for the classics Cthulhu Saves The World & Breath of Death VII! CSH is currently on the Kickstarter trail and from the math looks like will be funded. As usual if you like what you see then be sure to show your love with loads of $$$$$$$! You can do so HERE!

Speaking of Kickstarter, congratulations are in order for Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero & River City Ransom: Underground for reaching and exceeding their funding goals! If you still want to get in on the special backer goodies for Shantae then you can do so now with PayPal HERE! I'm helping!

Other than cracking out for AGH & Astro Boy I played some Ninja 5-0 and that game is better than they say. Simple but Complicated is how I would describe that experience thus far. Play that shit too when you get some time. There's 2 games in particular I really want to get into and I hope this gaming bug gets me there. I really hope so.

When it comes to all that other stuff I digest through my eyes and ears every week one thing does stick out...Kamen Rider Gaim. All the talk about how the premise was all over the place was put to rest when I watched it. But this is every time a new Rider or Sentai show is announced. Seeing the premise in words is one thing but to see it in action is another and this is no different. The question stands as it always does of "Will this show live up to the promise of said premise?" Wizard didn't quite do that and Kyoryuger is going above and beyond it. Where will Gaim sit? We have a whole year to find out.

The Vampire Diaries & The Originals finally got under way and while TVD is setting up for something good (Usually when this happens it goes south.) and The Originals just ran the pilot back through alternate eyes. I don't know if The Originals has the staying power to go a couple of seasons with what they've presented thus far. As long as some resolution is achieved before it gets canceled will be some sort of victory I suppose.

Everything else was everything else. A couple of the usual suspects are building to something big and when they do something to wow me then I'll gush all about it. Arrow will be back in the rotation this week so you have my thoughts to look forward to on that. I need to find out when Dallas is coming back. If history tells it then sometime around January seems like when that'll be back.

So let us put a bow on it. And now, What I Watched On YouTube This Week.

More Sonic For Hire. And I'll keep saying it. It'll be said when that time comes. But laugh until then!

New things soon cometh for Mega Man Unlimited. Have a peek. Watch me also admit my sins of getting to the 2nd half of the game and not finishing it. Yet. It'll come.

The 3rd battle of epic dictators will be contested in under 16 bars. I don't know how to count bars but it sounds cool.

The talented and beautiful ladies from Skullgirls...play Skullgirls!?

The things that creative souls can come up with when something is suggested on a podcast. Note: I need a new computer. Kickstarter, anyone?

And for a slow week we're still able to get in a full one as we always do. As usual thanks for kicking it for a little while. We always appreciate the company. And we'll see you next time for another installment of #TheCool! Until then.

-Triple Da G.O.D!

You weren't supposed to scroll this far down to see this but it's here in place of more Maid Kokonoe which I love but variety is the spice of life and Gaim is fucking awesome. Enjoy your cover pic this week. I'm Outtie 5000 for realz son! When was the last time you heard Outtie 5000? See you next time!

#GamingBucketList: Astro Boy: Omega Factor (GBA)

Astro Boy: Omega Factor! What can I say that hasn't been said already by others? Nothing much. All you've heard about this being a must in any gaming library is true. The reason why you're here however is because I got sucked into a crack session and because I am who I am is that I brought back goodies to share to make your future playthrough of this game even more enjoyable! Because I know you'll read this and want to get cracked out on this goodness too. So now you may be wondering how can you too have a wonderful experience playing a game that invokes all the classic trappings of gaming?

By letting the game be your guide of course. This game is very great in explaining how the game works and what it is you should be doing so be sure to not to skip any dialogue and to be paying attention at all times. This is important for a whole lot of reasons but for the scope of getting you what you need to know without spoiling the super awesome this game offers that it flows into Astro's plot device, his Omega Factor! The game uses this in a very interesting way. As Astro meets someone new it imprints on his Omega Factor and you're given a skill point (in most cases) to distribute to power up each of Astro's 6 Forces! Which are...
  1. Life. The more you power up this attribute the more HP Astro has.
  2. Punch. All of Astro's physical attacks become stronger as you power this up.
  3. Laser. Astro's Finger Laser & Arm Cannon become stronger as this is powered up.
  4. Shot. Astro's Machine Gun does more damage and inflicts greater stun as this is powered up.
  5. Jets. Astro can use his jets 1 additional time & the EX Dash lasts longer as this is powered up.
  6. Sensor. As this is powered up Astro can see in darkness, fog and hear & see things he couldn't before.
When it comes to distributing these points know this. If you follow the core rule of not skipping anything and being sure to pay attention then you'll ultimately get enough skill points to max out all of Astro's abilities. You should take into consideration these things though.

Life is a must to build up because this game doesn't play around and as long as you're alive you can win.

When it comes to Punch know that this game operates on Gunstar Heroes rules (Physical Attacks > Projectiles) and that any physical attack has quicker startup and builds the most meter for Super Attacks. Knowing this very important to survival as is everything I share with you.

When it comes to Laser is that you'll be using this a lot more than you think so keeping it powered up is important is because this is your primary weapon during shooter segments. And the more damage your Arm Cannon can do the better. You'll see why.

When it comes to Shot is what the game doesn't tell you is that it's equivalent to a Bomb/Mega Crash in most situations and in shooter segments you're very invincible while Astro's Machine Gun is active. Know that you're not powering this up because of the damage but for the stun time this inflicts. You can do some interesting things and get out some sticky situations with the Machine Gun. Use it wisely.

Powering up your Jets is interesting is because while you can do 7 Jet Dashes when its fully powered doesn't mean that you should. The game does let you know that during the duration of the dash you're invincible but the game fails to mention that you're not during the startup of a one and that includes going from dash to dash. This is something very key to know ahead of time. There is one thing in the game that requires your dash to be at a high enough level to access so I figured I'd let you know that info too. Also having your EX Dash last longer does help later on in some boss battles because it's a semi-safe way to do damage while a boss is on the offensive in some way. You'll play the game long enough and the many possible uses for all your types of dashes will click in time. Trust me.

When it comes to Sensor is that how you choose to power up this ability hinges on this. Will you use a walkthrough of some kind? Because if you are then you can use points you would've on this ability on others that will always be of some aid. Even though I've said this doesn't mean this ability is useless because it serves a purpose for a smoother playthrough. At the beginning of 2 specific stages is that Astro will let you know that by powering up this ability will make it easier for him to traverse the area in question. The 1st level only needs it to be powered up to Level 2 and the 2nd to Level 3. Now the 1st stage in my opinion isn't really necessary but the 2nd one once you bump into it is something you should be the judge of. And Levels 4 & 5 make it easier to find hidden stuff because Astro will let you know that he senses something in the stage that you should be on the lookout for. So this can be helpful if you're going in blind and want to see everything this game has to offer. And trust me you do.

And I think that's all you need to know about this awesome game and still be able to have a complete but effective experience through Astro Boy: Omega Factor. Like I said at the outset is that I had a wonderful time playing this game. Not only as a Treasure fan but as fan of the work of one of the greatest ever in Osamu Tezuka. They don't make games like this too much anymore and on top of that a licensed property to boot. I implore you to give this game a go if you haven't. This game is a must own & play for anybody that identifies themselves as a gamer. The game is that good.

I don't know where this spark came from to just get some gaming in but I'm loving it right now. There's been some other games I've been getting into and once I get to the goodness inside I'll be sure to share. Until next time!

    #GamingBucketList: Advance Guardian Heroes (GBA)

Sometimes even I can call it wrong and Advance Guardian Heroes is such a case. Before the long session in which I beat the game today, my time with AGH was limited to a play or 2 to see how it was. And I'll admit back then I wasn't thinking with my open mind equipped because all I could think about is how much this didn't feel like a sequel to a game I truly adore by developers I equally adore. With that taste of initial sour in my mouth I deemed it a competent game that I felt at the time wasn't a worthy successor to the franchise. That changed today with this playthrough of AGH. This was the playthrough of the game where everything just clicked because I gave it a true fair shot and how "surprising" when I did that was when I had a wonderful time. Even the story beats that I dismissed fell together for me as well and all the reasoning for this sequel truly made sense. Now that I've reached this place of enjoyment & enlightenment with the game is that I know I'll be coming back for more. Take my word on it is regardless of what you've heard is that this game stands up and is worth some of your time to give a shot to. The only gripe I can really drudge up is that maybe this game is a bit too much awesome for the GBA to handle. Some heavy slowdown in places which lead to the game's combat not truly shining as when the game is running on all cylinders. Other than that everything else is that Treasure goodness you come to expect when they do what they do best. Maybe one of these days I can get 3 more GBA's, the carts and take 4 player for a spin and see what's good on that front.

This is another one of those times I'm glad I'm in a place to be truly open to the options that are available to me. As long as I stay in the mindset to be receptive and have the courage to admit my shortsightedness on things is that I can continue to have epiphanies like the one that lead to me telling you how awesome this game is. So take some time and give this one a go if you haven't. And if you were like me and had an initial sour experience to give it a true honest shot and make your judgments based on that. I can't wait to see where this open mind of mine takes me next!

Thanks, Treasure! For doing the thing you always do! You know! That thing! BEING AWESOME!

    -Triple Da G.O.D!
